About our program
We have been awarded a grant from the MEXT Promotion of Development of a Joint Usage/Research System Project: Coalition of Universities for Research Excellence (CURE) Program in FY 2023.
In our program titled “Establishing a collaborative intelligence platform for extending healthy lifespan,” Kanazawa University (Cancer Research Institute), Tohoku University (Institute of Development, Aging and Cancer), Osaka University (Research Institute for Microbial Diseases), and Keio University (Institute for Advanced Biosciences) have come together to form the interdisciplinary research field “Healthy Lifespan Science” consortium, by linking outstanding research on “cancer,” “aging,” “inflammation,” and “metabolism,” and expanding dynamic collaboration at the organizational level. By transcending the conventional boundaries of research fields and researcher communities targeted by each institution, we aim to establish a “hub” where researchers from various domestic and international disciplines can participate, thereby revitalizing joint usage and joint research activities and striving towards the construction of a “collective intelligence” platform for extending healthy lifespan.
Pioneering “Healthy Lifespan Science” as an international research hub through collaboration of the Institutes
Promoting social implementation by turning the research network into a business platform

About our logo

In this program, four research institutes have joined forces, leveraging their respective areas of expertise to advance interdisciplinary research.
By combining cutting-edge research technologies to produce the highest quality outcomes, we aim to extend healthy lifespan to its fullest potential, thereby addressing pressing societal challenges and contributing to the creation of a sustainable society where all people can lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
- The logo colors of the four institutes — purple, red, silver, and navy — represent their unique fields of specialization, and their integration symbolizes the fusion of diverse disciplines driving the advancement of a new form of interdisciplinary science.
- The initials of each institute’s research theme come together to form “CIMA,” which means “summit” or “peak” in Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and other languages — representing our aspiration to reach the pinnacle of healthy lifespan science.
