The CRI Logo embodies the 50-year journey of the Institute in its unwavering quest to understand cancer biology for the purpose of clinical application. The Logo features a motif of an optical microscope lens, stylized by the name of our Institute, CRI. The lens was selected as a motif not just because it pertains to morphological examination, but the scientific process of observation that includes measurement and quantification of biological phenomena. It communicates a solemn attitude towards inquisitive observation.
“Observation” is the first step to understanding the principle of life and therefore clarifying the nature of cancer; and furthermore to “creation”, i.e. the development of innovative cancer therapies. As it is the most important step in our pursuit, and the “lens” motif was therefore selected as a symbol for our Institute.
The concentric arrangement of the Logo expresses a desire to pass on our knowledge to the scientific community, and for the benefits of our discoveries to ripple into our society.
Lastly, the purple color of the Logo communicates the philosophy and depth of the Institute.
